Opportunities From: Charlotte Family Housing

For families experiencing housing instability, summer can be an especially challenging time. Camp RUSH provides a transformative 8-week summer experience for youth living in Charlotte Family Housing's transitional shelters, offering no-cost access to a supportive and empowering summer program.

Please sign up for a day to provide lunch for our camp students and staff (20 people). You can cook at the shelter or bring prepared food or order something delicious. Lunch is served at 12pm every day. Please write in the comment what you plan to bring for lunch when you sign-up!

Collect and assemble baskets filled with fresh linen to help give families a fresh start when entering the sheltering and create a welcoming environment.

These sessions can include information on who we are and what we do, plus education on housing and homelessness and engaging games or crafts for younger participants.

Volunteers can support our team by providing front desk coverage at our shelters, helping ensure daily operations continue smoothly while staff attend all-staff meetings and other important events. This role includes greeting guests, answering basic questions, and helping create a warm, welcoming environment for families and visitors.

All volunteers who will be interacting with families at our shelter are required to complete a background check.

Volunteers can provide childcare and spend time engaging with the children in a safe, fun, and supportive environment during in-person workshops at our shelter.

Optional add-on: Volunteers may also choose to provide dinner for families following the workshop (headcount for approximately 20 people). This is completely optional and not required to participate.

Host a fun evening for our families! Groups may choose to host pizza nights and movie nights with snacks, games, or crafts for families to enjoy. Supplies must be provided.

Volunteers can help create a welcoming and comfortable environment for families by supporting both indoor and outdoor shelter needs. Opportunities include general cleaning in common areas such as the kitchen, dining room, living room, and day center; outdoor projects like lawn mowing, pruning, mulching, weeding, planting, and pressure washing; and special projects such as painting offices, building furniture, or assisting with other facility improvements. When possible, volunteers are encouraged to provide their own supplies to help maximize impact.
